  • With a team of around 500 people, Mature Savings look after existing pensions and investments - from dealing with customer enquiries, updating information and handling customer claims.

    We also have a group of teams handling Communications, Product Literature, Project Management and training.

  • Job Duties
  • Forecasting and Capacity Planning. Produce, develop, maintain and analyse regular short and long-term forecasts for front and back office teams using a high degree of statistical analysis.

    Communicate and justify resource capacity requirements to all levels of management up to Senior Managers and Directors. You will be required to exercise judgement to validate assumptions and identify trends in data and concisely explain how you have arrived at these decisions to influence the decision making of a senior audience.

    Database Support. Technical support of key strategic MI and Work management systems and other technical tools, ensuring the ongoing integrity of system data is paramount.

    Oversee upgrades; manage defects escalating to the product vendor and IBM as appropriate. Use judgement to analyse risks and steer stakeholders on whether to accept defect or pursue a fix.

    Define and develop systems to maximise operational efficiency and enable end users to extract accurate information to meet business requirements.

    MI Production and Insight. Produce, collate and analyse management information, presenting insight to allow the Leadership Community to make decisions based on sound information and fact.

    Continually evaluate the accuracy and reasonability of all contributing data sources, including those from 3rd parties, to ensure the end product is complete, fit for purpose and is acceptable to all stakeholders.

    At this level this will include responsibility for submitting data externally to the FCA or ABI.

    Continuous Improvement Projects. Carry out projects within Support Services, ensuring that project goals and progress is communicated to Support Services management, and that key targets are met in a cost-

    effective manner. The range of subject will vary from introduction of new systems to reviews of practice and use of work management software.

    Data Analysis and Business Intelligence. Define and agree requirements of ad-hoc analysis requests, ensuring there is a common understanding of what is needed.

    Use a range of qualitative and quantitative techniques to analyse information in order to identify trends, variances, risks, issues or opportunities.

    Use insight gained from the analysis to make recommendations to Senior Management to support information including highlighting key areas that can drive business critical decision-making.

    Best Practice. Promote and define best practice guidance and technical support to the operational areas in respect of key strategic MI and work management systems (i.

    e. EG suite of software), ensuring guidelines are followed and the rationale is understood.

    TCF : make sure that all activities are undertaken with TCF at the forefront, identifying issues that may be causing detriment to customers unfairly and raising as appropriate.

    Qualifications :

    Minimum appropriate qualifications :

    BCS Foundation Certificate in Business Analysis

    At least one of the below :

    Certificate in Financial Planning 1 (CF1)

    Financial Administration Life (FA1)

    Financial Administration Pensions (FA2)

    Investment Operations Certificate paper 1

    Investment Operations Certificate paper 2

    Investment Operations Certificate paper 3

    Or relevant on the job experience gained through carrying out a similar role within a Resource planning and MI department.

    Knowledge :

    PRODUCT : Knowledge of past and present Products, and the purpose of the products. In addition ensure that knowledge is acquired and maintained on new product propositions.

    Sound understanding of regulatory responsibilities and governance associated with each product.

    PROCESS : Good knowledge of end to end Operations processes.

    Comprehensive knowledge of processes within area of responsibility and the impact they may have on other areas.

    Has an excellent knowledge of the financial impact processes have both to L&G and to the customer, taking appropriate action as a result.

    Comprehensive knowledge of business risks and controls.

    Extensive knowledge of all Business Performance processes, covering operational and complaint reporting, planning and forecasting

    SYSTEMS : Thorough knowledge of appropriate systems utilised across Insured Savings and IPS (Mainframe, FPF, FAST etc)

    Expert knowledge of Office software packages such as MS Office, Business Objects and MS Access

    Expert knowledge of the EG suite of software.

    Expert knowledge of databases, data structures, data modelling

    Advanced understanding of SQL (Transact & DB2) to build efficient, complex queries & Database Applications.

    Extensive knowledge of Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) so that Applications can be built and supported to best practice standards.

    MARKETS : Excellent knowledge of key customer events, competitors and market conditions and how they impact the area in order to predict customer demand and opportunities this provides.

    REGULATORY : Understands the Regulatory framework of the UK Financial Services industry

    Adherence to all internal controls, in order to enhance controls and mitigate risks

    Good working knowledge of Financial Services sector and environment

    BUSINESS : Has an excellent knowledge of the key responsibilities and processes in the area and what other areas deal with.

    Comprehensive understanding of own and team role objectives, priorities and constraints

    Working knowledge of Retail Savings objectives

    In-depth business knowledge .

    COMMUNICATION : Effective, concise and professional communication and presentation skills.

    Ability to tailor complex information to the appropriate level for an audience in order to gain buy in to proposals or concepts

    Ability to facilitate discussions with groups of key stakeholders, keeping discussions on track and productive

    Persuade and influence stakeholders to ensure that focus is kept on doing the right thing for our customers and L&G.

    ANALYSIS : Excellent numeric aptitude

    The advanced principles involved in information systems, concept of relational databases and interrogation of system data.

    The basic architecture of MI systems, sufficient to be able to interpret to users

    The basis of query design and various selection criteria that could be applied

    The principles behind Business Objects universe development

    The principles behind the use of macros / VBA for advanced use of Microsoft Office Products for reporting.

    Ability to exert a significant degree of evaluative judgement to combine assumptions from a variety of data sources into one comprehensive model which forms the basis of Operations headcount forecast and as such has a large financial impact if it is inaccurate

    PLANNING, ORGANISING & ACHIEVEMENT DRIVE : Ability to plan and prioritize own workload to ensure deadlines are met, and highest impact work is focused on, regardless of individual preference.
