This position will be based in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam.

Responsibilities

Under minimal supervision, you will provide technical leadership in all laboratory and testing issues within areas of responsibility and be in charge of performing tests and recording test results in one or more related areas.

These include tests with no published requirements or those involving unique features that require the use of independent judgment.

You may have to plan tests, evaluate test results and report opinions and interpretations and also assist Lab Manager to modify existing methods or develop and validate new test methods.

This Senior Engineering Technician will initiate recommendations for new equipment designs, recommend solutions to observed test problems and develop operating, maintenance and test procedures.

He / She will take on mentoring responsibility to train staff and assists others in the laboratory, and performs other duties as directed.

Duties include laboratory quality control, scheduling of work, calibration of equipment, equipment design and installation and assists in coordinating workflow to assure proper utilization of staff.

Depending on experience of this candidate, leadership and management responsibilities may be part of the job scope.

  • Prepare instructions for test methods and procedures, quality control, and maintenance procedures.
  • Examine test samples and reads measuring instruments, blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and operational instructions
  • Develop operating, maintenance, and test procedures based on laboratory procedures, standards and safety policies
  • Collaborate with supervisor on staffing levels, performance appraisals and merit ratings of staff
  • Ensure company policies are followed in the lab areas
  • Design, adapt or direct the building of test setups and equipment to new situations, based on analysis of test specifications and engineering personnel’s requests and instructions
  • Prepare purchase and material requisitions
  • Recommend solutions to observed test problems
  • Perform routine maintenance of designated test equipment and laboratory area
  • Operate with minimal supervision within defined limits of responsibility
  • Communicate with engineering personnel to receive instructions, convey data and determine equipment availability and with clients during test setup and performance to demonstrate or otherwise illustrate equipment test methods and / or discuss test results
  • Communicate with UL field representatives to discuss follow-up tests, samples, equipment, methods and / or results
  • Communicate with plant department personnel to offer suggestions pertinent to equipment needs and to arrange for delivery of samples from receiving dock
  • Record observed or calculated data on appropriate UL forms and prepares data sheets and report
  • Plan tests, evaluates test results and reports opinions and interpretations
  • Assist in developing annual budgetary goals, capital expenditure budget for laboratory equipment, and tactical plans for the assigned laboratory section
  • Integrate continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job
  • Perform other duties as directed
  • Qualifications

    This Senior Engineering Technician ideally should possess a University education in Engineering or Chemistry related discipline with 5 years of related experience, preferably within the testing, inspection and certification space.

    Candidates with experience with indoor air quality testing will be ideal.

    A Senior Engineering Technician in UL should be able to demonstrate ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining high quality and exceptional customer service.

    He / She should have the skillsets to partner with Engineering and other Laboratory personnel to complete projects in a timely manner.

    He / She should also possess a leadership potential to coach and mentor junior laboratory staff.
