ABOUT THE FUNCTION

The Data Team is an integral part of the GFG team and is essential to enable a data-driven decision making culture. The Data team sits at the crossroads of various departments ranging from Category Management (Buying & Planning), Finance, Customer Service, Marketing & Fulfilment Centre.

Performing the three key roles of awareness creator, predictor and strategiser of the future, it also is undoubtedly a valued and significant team.

We are looking for an experienced Data Science Practitioner to own and start one of the key areas in the Data team - the Data Strategy function which serves as an advisory and hand-on actioning unit that works directly with the senior leadership to answer key strategy problems using data and insights.

You will be an individual contributor to start, reporting directly to the Group CTO and helping the CTO and other senior leadership with answering key data questions through your own data magic skills.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This role is responsible for the following three areas :

  • Individual contributor who can solve data problems for Management Board&Senior Leadership
  • Own cross-regional collaboration across all regions; facilitate the sharing of ideas & projects
  • Lead data-product prototypes and quick-win consulting engagements with regional executives
  • Working in tandem with the existing data science and analytics teams, this senior person needs to act as a thought leader and driver of an always-on learning culture.

    Your work will have a direct impact on shaping the future of how all the operations and decisions are enabled across 17 countries around the world and will help run the group more efficiently and be on the leading edge of offering a seamless customer experience and smooth operational management.

    The ideal candidate will have a strong quantitative / technical background with experience working with large datasets and solving tough problems.

    You will be a highly intelligent self-starter, with a bias towards action and attention to detail.

    The one noticeable impact of this position would be to induce and drive needle-moving changes across the regions - in the form of profitability analyses, customer understanding and driving marketing efficiencies, to name only a few key initiatives.

    This is a newly formed role, carved out from a previous senior role to instil more rigour and discipline to the data strategy area.

    WHAT WILL YOU BRING TO THE TEAM

    Proven Hands-on Technical Prowess

    Why? We’d need this person to be able to jump into the data, unearth answers and work directly with senior leadership to answer time-critical questions on their own

  • Hands-on expertise with SQL, Python / R and extensive data munging operations in all of them
  • Experience with building predictive models and translating them for real-world business problems
  • Prior experience with delivering and managing visual data deliverables like dashboards, funnels
  • Experience with diverse problem areas like discrete optimisation, forecasting and deep learning
  • Working knowledge of the overall SDLC process for data products - including but not limited to building Docker images, provisioning infrastructure, CI / CD and coding best practices
  • Executive Stakeholder Management

    Why? The key aspect of this role is to work with executive stakeholders and other senior leaders to help them make effective decisions on some of the most significant problems facing the business

  • Ability to talk the executive language of being commercially focussed and make spot decisions
  • Attend key executive meetings and have regular catch up meetings to understand their needs
  • Provide guidance on solving and surfacing long-tailed customer focussed & operations problems
  • Distil simplified results and decisions from complex multi-faceted problems across the business
  • Effectively translate and handover the proof of concepts and MVPs to regional data teams
  • Data Vision

  • Help set up the data vision for the company and define a path towards that vision in terms of applications, algorithms and the right infrastructure - along with the other date leads
  • Monitor and advance the current data infrastructure challenges to future proof our approaches to algorithms and visualizations
  • Aid with the hiring and growing part of the team with desired changes for most efficient output
